Armenian alphabet Pendant Sterling silver 925 Armenian jewelry
Mesrop Mashtots is an Armenian linguist, creator of the Armenian alphabet, founder of Armenian literature and writing, educator, missionary, Bible translator, theologian, saint of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian Catholic. Having created the Armenian alphabet, Mashtots became the founder of the Armenian national alphabet. The Armenian alphabet has existed almost unchanged for more than one and a half thousand years - it is called one of the oldest. It is believed that it was created in 405-406.
Initially, the alphabet consisted of 36 letters, of which 7 were vowels, and 29 were consonants. Oshakan is a place especially revered by Armenians all over the world, because the ashes of the creator of the Armenian alphabet Mesrop Mashtots are buried here.
